I would like to introduce the Traveling Box to the SHELL group.
The Traveling Box goes from SHELL member to SHELL member. When you get the Traveling Box you take out any items you can use, then add items you are no longer using. You then send it on to the next person on the list. The person who receives the Traveling Box after that continues the process, and so on down the line.
Please only add items that may be of interest to a home educating family. Examples include school and art/craft supplies, educational software, videos, and audio recordings, books, and curriculum. You are not limited to the preceding items, but please no used toasters or old clothes.
The last person on the list to receive the box returns it to the originating member after taking out the items wanted and refilling it. From here, the box is checked to ensure everything is going well and then the loop begins all over again. The second time you receive the box it should have completely different items in it since it’s been around to many different people.
This box was originally started on the Freecycle chat group but has been to everyone who wanted it there. After all, there are only so many home educators on that list. It was returned to me grown to three boxes with lots of things that I did not originally put inside so it already has a good variety of things inside, from new boxes of crayons to car repair manuals. There do seem to be more preschool and elementary level things than stuff for older students. I just added an older version of Hooked on Phonics, and the book, Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons among other things.
If you are interested in receiving the box, email me or post to the SHELL forums. Let’s try not to clutter up the Yahoo group by using the new forums instead. I will collect names until Friday morning, make a list and put the list inside the box. I will probably draw names to establish the order of the list. Then the first recipient can pick up the boxes at park day. When they are done they can make arrangements to pass the box to the next member on the list.
Anyone wanting to be added to the list after the list has been made and the box has started traveling can be added to the bottom of the list.
If you are unable to pick up the boxes at park day we will work out something else.

On the upper left side of the screen, there is a box titled Meta.

Please click on Register and add the user name you prefer to use and your email address. The system will email you an automatically generated password with a link to log in.
Edited to add: Spam filters seem to be eating these emails. They come instantly so if you don’t have it within a minute or two, check your spam box. If you still don’t have it contact us to have it reset.
Upon logging in for the first time, go to your profile and change the password to one you can remember. I would recommend that you use the same one that you use for the Shell Yahoo Group to make it easier. Once you are logged in, you will no longer see the Register link. I had to get the screenshot above using a different computer.
Once you are registered you will be able to leave comments on articles here. If you would like to add articles yourself please contact us so that we can change your status to an author.
More instructions for writing articles, etc. will be posted over the next few days.
